We had a lovely ride down to Burwell on Friday night, after I spent all day sorting out and hoovering the boat - the cooker all works (although we did think the oven was knackered until we remembered the little ignition button ...)
It was Bank Holiday weekend, so of course, it tipped it down all day Saturday. We had to moor alongside Serenade, so the boys spent quite a while happily devising a sort of awning between the two boats, although I still managed to get soaked ...
In the afternoon, while the boys were at the pub, we persuaded some friendly narrow boaters, from Dolly May (http://www.dollymay.co.uk/) to let us move Blue Dragon bankside, and later we ended up, as you do, sitting outside having a drink or two with them - even when the rains came back! Sent Daughter Thing a photo - she said we looked like we were at a festival! We finished of the evening with an Indian takeaway on board Blue Dragon - after our little Freeman it's good to be able to invite guests on board comfortably.
On Sunday the sun shone, but brought strong winds with it, just to stop us getting complacent, but we had a good day. We took the dinghies out beyond the end of navigation, which was interesting, but a bit scary as I was on my own in ours, as John was looking after his mother (red wine at 11 am!). We spent a pleasant afternoon outside the Fox, listening to a live band, while the others tested cider, sold in aid of the Air Ambulance. Later on, a chinese takeaway on Serenade, and then to bed.
Monday was dull and damp, so we came straight home in the morning, leaving Serenade to go off for the rest of their week's holiday. Half the Club seemed to be at the lock, it was nice to see that so many of us had braved the elements to have a weekend out.
